Black Butte Porter Spice Cake

January 30, 2012 by Steve Leave a Comment

I absolutely love spice cake and adding a really good porter to it like Deschutes Brewery’s Black Butte Porter you can hardly go wrong. Try this out the next time you have guests over for a secret delight. Make sure you don’t tell them about the porter until after they try it and let them guess the secret ingredient.

Prep Time Cooking Time Ready In Servings Beer Style
20m 40m 1h 6 Porter

Ingredients:

  • 3 C all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 C vegetable oil
  • 1 C molasses
  • 1 C Black Butte Porter

Directions:

Butter and flour a 9×9-inch cake pan. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine liquid ingredients. Slowly add liquid to dry ingredients mixing well and pour into prepared pan.

Place in a preheated 350 degree oven for 40 – 50 minutes. Check center of cake with a toothpick ~ It should come out clean. Serve with vanilla ice cream and Black Butte Porter, of course!.
